McCormack Construction partnered with the City of Pendleton on the B-17 Hangar Tenant Improvement project, a $550,000 remodel of a historic aviation facility at the Pendleton Airport. This completed project reflects McCormack’s commitment to preserving regional landmarks while delivering modern functionality for community use.
The project involved a comprehensive 3,200-square-foot interior renovation of the historic B-17 Hangar located at 4529 NW A Ave. McCormack Construction handled demolition of existing wall finishes, interior partition walls, doors, and windows, then rebuilt the space with careful attention to the building’s historic character. The exterior façade was meticulously matched to its original appearance, ensuring the hangar’s heritage remained intact while providing updated interior facilities.
The remodel included new flooring, drop ceilings, interior partitions, computer labs, upgraded electrical and lighting systems, and a modern reception area. McCormack served as general contractor while self-performing key portions of the work and providing design development services to support the City’s vision.
Key challenges included navigating the historic nature of the building, working with very limited design documents, and addressing issues typical of aging infrastructure during an interior remodel. To overcome these obstacles, McCormack maintained constant communication with the owner and provided heavy oversight from office staff. Extensive pre-construction coordination with subcontractors ensured accurate pricing and informed decision-making throughout the process.
The project was completed in approximately four months and delivered under budget, while incorporating owner-requested features that were not part of the original scope. For McCormack Construction, this project strengthened an already strong relationship with the City of Pendleton, a long-term, return client who awarded this work directly based on trust and proven performance. The B-17 Hangar now serves the community as a modernized facility that honors its aviation heritage.
