McCormack Construction is currently building a custom residence for Mike and Jule Cuneo in the Blue Mountains outside Pilot Rock, Oregon. The $3.3 million project involves ground-up construction of an 8,900-square-foot wood-framed home in a remote mountain location. The project is in progress and scheduled for completion in December 2025.
Mike and Jule Cuneo are owners of Cuneo Family Ranch in Pilot Rock and Jarrett Foundations, a specialty contractor based in Northern California that provides drilled and driven pile foundation services throughout Northern California and Northern Nevada. McCormack is serving as CM/GC on the project, which began construction in June 2025.
The remote location at 49867 McKay Creek Road, approximately 15 miles outside Pilot Rock, has presented unique logistical challenges. McCormack established a Starlink connection to provide reliable internet and cellular service for the on-site team and set up temporary power service to ensure constant, dependable electricity for all construction needs. Additionally, inadequate soils at the site required complete over-excavation and replacement with suitable fill materials before construction could proceed.
Other challenges have included working with insufficient design detail, managing custom design changes throughout construction, and maintaining communication with owners located in Northern California. The design team was contracted independently by the owner for initial design only, requiring McCormack to develop solutions to conflicts and issues as they arise. To address these obstacles, McCormack has maintained consistent communication with the owners, used detailed scheduling to secure timely decisions on custom materials, and documented all information for distribution to subcontractors.
As of now, the Cuneo Family Dwelling Project remains under budget and on schedule, with the owners very satisfied with progress. For McCormack Construction, this project demonstrates the company’s ability to deliver complex custom residential work in challenging remote locations.
