East Umatilla County Fire and Rescue

McCormack Construction partnered with East Umatilla County Fire and Rescue on a ground-up fire station in Weston, Oregon, designed to expand emergency response capabilities for rural eastern Oregon communities. The $5.1 million project was completed in 2024 under the leadership of Fire Chief Dave Baty and represents a critical investment in public safety infrastructure for the region.

The project involved construction of a 10,000-square-foot pre-engineered metal building fire station located at 202 Banister Road. McCormack served as CM/GC and design-build lead, delivering a fully functional facility tailored to support full-time firefighters and EMT services. The station was designed to ensure efficient programming and operational flow for emergency response personnel serving rural communities across eastern Oregon.

Key challenges included working within the constraints of a rural fire district with a limited budget while adhering to a tight 12-month construction schedule. To address these issues, McCormack worked closely with the owner to ensure accurate facility programming and layout that aligned with operational requirements. Massive value engineering efforts during pre-construction were essential to controlling costs and maintaining project feasibility without compromising the station’s functionality or safety standards.

Strict schedule adherence and continuous communication with the owner’s representative and Fire Chief Baty were critical to the project’s success. McCormack’s team maintained close coordination throughout construction to ensure milestones were met and any adjustments were made efficiently. The result was a project completed on time and under budget, reinforcing a strong partnership with East Umatilla County Fire and Rescue.

For McCormack Construction, this project demonstrates the company’s ability to deliver essential public safety facilities in rural settings while meeting stringent budget and schedule requirements. The East Umatilla County Fire and Rescue station continues to serve as a vital resource, providing critical emergency services to communities throughout rural eastern Oregon.
