McCormack Construction partnered with Stanfield School District on a comprehensive renovation and expansion project designed to accommodate a growing rural community’s influx of school-age children. The $16.3 million project was completed in 2021 under the leadership of Superintendent Beth Burton and represents the successful fulfillment of a voter-approved bond measure. Every item in the bond, including the district’s wish list, was accomplished, demonstrating McCormack’s commitment to maximizing community investment in education infrastructure.
The project involved a 50,000-square-foot renovation of the existing high school and construction of a 20,000-square-foot middle school addition featuring a full-size gym, locker rooms, music room, and classrooms at 1120 N Main Street. McCormack served as CM/GC, managing the transformation of aging educational facilities into modern learning environments. The scope also included full parking lot replacement at the middle school, high school, and elementary school, creating comprehensive improvements across the entire district campus.
Key challenges included working within a rural community’s limited budget while adhering to a tight 15-month schedule during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Supply chain disruptions and dramatic cost escalation threatened both the timeline and budget, requiring constant vigilance and creative problem-solving. Managing construction at an occupied school campus during a global pandemic added layers of complexity related to safety protocols, material availability, and workforce coordination that had never been encountered on previous projects.
To address these challenges, McCormack maintained close communication with Superintendent Burton and district leadership, transparently discussing scheduling challenges and budget impacts. The team never stopped value engineering throughout the project, continuously identifying cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or scope. Early procurement of materials became a priority strategy to prevent progress delays, with the team securing critical items well in advance. McCormack identified issues early and developed creative solutions to overcome supply chain obstacles and pandemic-related disruptions while maintaining safety and schedule integrity.
The Stanfield School District Bond Project was completed on time and under budget, earning raving reviews and establishing Stanfield as a returning client. McCormack is currently working with the district to develop a bond for the next school facility. For McCormack Construction, this project demonstrates exceptional adaptability, crisis management expertise, and the ability to deliver comprehensive educational infrastructure during unprecedented challenges.
